Prologue

I never thought that in just a matter of months that my life could change so much, permanently. I didn't think that I would have been back in Chesterton this soon, either. The phone call I received a couple of days ago startled me. She had gone missing, they asked me if I knew where she was, of course I didn't, but I had my suspicions. I called my pack together for a meeting based on my suspicions, and they decided to act on them. That is how I ended up here, in the mall, illegally, might I add, at 3 a.m. We had searched but to no avail, where could they be hiding? I walked through the dark corridors, thanking the goddess for my enhanced night vision. It was quiet, and I could hear my own breath and heartbeat. I was nervous, and I had some idea of what I was up against, but there are some things even I don't know. What if they were watching me right now and I didn't even notice? What if they were playing some sick sadistic game of hide and seek, no, hide and kill would be more accurate. The place where I once found fun was turned into a deadly maze. I made it to the center of the mall, and I looked up, I could see the stars and the moon through the glass. I regained focus of what was around me, and scanned the area, studying my surroundings. From behind me came footsteps and I whirled around to face my opponent. In the dim light I could see him, and he looked overly arrogant and pleased with himself. From where I was, he seemed to be shielding something. I tried to look around him, but failed. He then finally showed me what was so precious to him, it was her, and the moment I saw her I knew that one of us wasn't going to leave the mall, ever.
